Oh Crabs! Now What? by Jenna Stone

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been writing a self-development book over the past year and have been extremely fortunate so far to interview reputable spiritual leaders, well-known celebrities, thriving entrepreneurs, tough-as-nails athletes, and even stay-at-home moms and dads who are now living their greatest dreams despite discouragement from others and challenges along the way.
This book is a practical guide to overcoming the horrific “Crab Mentality”. As you probably know, the Crab Mentality illustrates the circumstances that arise in a pot of crabs during fishing. A fisherman doesn’t actually need to put the top on the crab pots – because if even one crab tries to escape – the other crabs will drag it back down to the bottom.
*Although I imagine it isn’t just the competitive crabs. I believe some well-meaning friend and family crabs are at the bottom of the crab pot too – emailing, calling, and even posting nonstop on Twitter and Facebook with incessant dramatic pleas and wild cautionary tales:

“You’d better play it safe!”

“Leaving is too risky!”

“You know so and so tried to do the same thing and (random horrific incident here) happened to them.”

“Why don’t you just raise a family and drive a truck like your father did?”

This big fish story is much like the ‘human version’ that describes the constant struggle of people who find themselves in that deeply uncomfortable transitional space “the brink of distinction”.

These optimistic individuals are working to attain a better life – despite the ‘others’ who work diligently to drag him or her down – in this dreaded ‘king of the mountain’ scenario …

This book features interviews and anecdotes on how to overcome the clear attempts of well-meaning family/friends or envious coworkers/competitors to discourage your change, growth, direction, success, etc.. We are also discussing creating a documentary as well which will feature interviews with the contributing authors after the book is published.

My desire is to inspire crabs everywhere (who are working their little crab claws into little crab nubs) that belief, tenacity, and a good pair of noise reduction headphones are the true keys to success and staying on your path.

If you have anyone in mind who would be a valuable addition to this project – please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience.

Crabby Kisses

Creatively Yours,

Jenna
